Unmeasured for flute and fixed media This work was written in 2010 for the Cortona Sessions for New Music. The bass line was taken from an Unmeasured Prelude (a prelude in which the duration of each note is left to the performer. Typically 17th century harpsichord compositions that are written without rhythm or meter indications.) and I wrote a new top half to accompany the bass. The bass is loosely present in the fixed media portion of the piece.
I’m Briggs Kennedy and I write music to tell stories. My entry into the world of composing – primarily for chamber ensembles (think string quartets) and solo works started with Scott McAllister in 2007. I was introduced to an entire musical world I didn’t know existed. Since then my works have been performed all over the United States and some of the globe, including the Cabrillo Festival, the Bang on a Can Summer Festival, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, Oh My Ears, Downtown Chamber Series, and Rhymes with Opera. I am based in Phoenix and enjoy working as a grant writer, advocate of new music, and composer.
